How Orbit's SMS program works and how staff opt in
Orbit is scheduling software for clinics and residency programs. When a clinician calls out, needs a shift covered, offers a shift for pickup, or proposes a call trade, Orbit can reach the colleagues involved by text message so they can answer with one word instead of opening the app.
Who sends: Orbit (DCR LLC), from one dedicated Orbit phone number.
Who receives: only clinic and residency staff who hold an Orbit account and have linked their own mobile number as described below. Orbit never texts a number that has not been verified by its owner.
Why: to deliver time-sensitive schedule requests (coverage asks, pickup offers, call trades), confirm the recipient's reply, and send one-time codes that link a phone to an account. There is no marketing content in this program.
Opt-in happens only inside the signed-in Orbit app, only for the user's own phone, and always in two steps: the user types their mobile number and presses Send code, Orbit texts a six-digit code to that number, and the user enters the code to confirm. Nothing is pre-filled or pre-checked, and linking a phone is never required to use Orbit. The same screen appears in three places:
This is the exact opt-in screen as shown when joining a schedule:
And as shown on the profile page and in Settings:
After the code is confirmed, the phone is marked linked and Orbit sends one confirmation text: "This phone is linked to your Orbit account. Orbit: reply YES or NO to a coverage ask, UNDO within 10 minutes to take a YES back, HELP for this message, STOP to opt out. Msg&data rates may apply. Support: support@orbitscheduling.com"
All five categories above are schedule and account notifications tied to your own roster — this program sends no marketing or promotional messages of any kind. Frequency: varies with your schedule's activity; most staff receive a few messages per month, and only when a request involves them. Message and data rates may apply.
Reply STOP to any Orbit text to cancel; you will receive one confirmation and no further texts. Reply HELP for help. You can also unlink your phone at any time from your profile page or Settings → Notifications → SMS notifications. Unlinking or replying STOP never affects your Orbit account or schedule — asks simply reach you in the app and by email instead.
